One has a dizzying choice of small, quaint little eateries serving traditional soup, sugar can juice, and of course, banh mi (baguette filled with meats and salads). Banh mi opla ( fried egg in baguette) is a particular favorite among the budget conscious travelers to the island as it only costs 10,000 VND per sandwich or $0.50 USD. Most of these small eateries can be found throughout the island, especially in Dong Duong Town and An Thoi Town
Banh Mi– Vietnamese Sandwich
One cannot dismiss the charms of the simple banh mi (baguette style sandwich). In choosing from the various cold meats, fresh vegetables and salad, and topped with a variety of sauces and spices, you can create a Vietnamese style sandwich that can satisfy any taste. A standard banh mi consists of different cold cuts of pork, pate, shredded vegetables, rad chili slices, spring onion and sweet fish sauce. Other variations include adding scrambled eggs, onion and cheese.
