Accommodation prices on Phu Quoc yo-yo up and down depending on the season and visitor numbers. Variations are more extreme than anywhere else in Vietnam, but tend to affect budget and midrange places more than the high-end resorts. Some places will treble their prices for the peak season of December and January, when bookings are crucial. Across all of the budget categories, you’ll get less for your money than you’d expect for the price. These below are the cheapest hotels and resorts in Phu Quoc.
You can get a brick bungalow for US$10 a night at Nhat Lan Resort on Long Beach (phone (84-77) 3847663, email firstname.lastname@example.org). Picture thatched roofs, tiny lizards hunting for mosquitoes in the middle of the night, and deck chairs to watch the sunset. Also on Long Beach, Thanh Kieu Resort (phone (84-77) 3980998, email email@example.com) has bungalows for US$15-35. Thanh Kieu, incidentally, used to be known as the Coco Beach Resort.
Near La Veranda Resort is Viet Thanh Resort with simple and cheap bungalows and a wicked nightly seafood barbeque. There is no Internet access, but you can steal some of La Veranda Resort’s wifi if you have a laptop and don’t get caught.
About 20km north of Duong Dong is the Mai Phuong Beach Resort. It is the only resort for miles, offering very clean and pleasant bungalows and a relaxed family atmosphere. The cheapest bungalows cost US$10/night, but prices rise to US$70 depending on the bungalow and the season. The resort has a boat which can take you to a nearby island for snorkeling. It also offers fishing trips. Back on Long Beach is a place called the Lam Ha Eco Resort.
Whether it is a real eco-friendly resort is up for debate, but accommodation here is definitely cheap. Prices range from $10 to $20 per night.
