Ong Doi (The Captain) is the name of a cape of the end of Phu Quoc island in the South East. It’s belong to the town of An Thoi, Phu Quoc district, Kien Giang province. This location is not only a beautiful landscape but also a historical place associated with the Emperor Gia Long, the first king of Nguyễn dynasty.
According to legend, during the withdrawal from the battle with Tay Son army, Nguyen Anh had a cruise to the island of Phu Quoc to escape from the Tay Son insurgent army and stayed in the island. When the boat docked at this cape, suddenly the Tay Son army was approaching, but the boat was hitting the reef. The situation is urgent, a captain who jumped into the sea to free the boat and sacrificed. When Nguyen Anh became king, Nguyen Anh – Gia Long returned to this place to remember the captain for saving his life. His title was given to the name of the Cape Ông Đội – The Captain.
Today, the cape is well known by its beautiful and history, traveller often visit this location when traveling by boat on the route of visiting other attractions and enjoy the blue water of Phu Quoc sea.
